Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: "AN UNDESERVED GIFT"
Verse of the Day: 1 Timothy 1:15
Devotional Message:
(1 Timothy 1:15)
"Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners–of whom I am the worst."
Observation
Imagine receiving a beautifully wrapped gift, something you've always wanted but never expected to get. You open it, and inside is something far more valuable than anything money can buy. Now, imagine that the giver tells you, "You don't have to do anything to earn this. I am giving it to you simply because I love you."
That is exactly what God did for us through Jesus Christ. Paul, the writer of this verse, was once an enemy of Christians. He arrested and persecuted those who followed Jesus. Yet, despite his past, Jesus forgave him and changed his life completely. Paul called himself "the worst of sinners," but God's love and mercy were greater than his mistakes.
If Paul, a man with a terrible past, could be saved by Jesus, then so can we. Jesus came into the world to save sinners—not just the "good" people, not just those who try their best, but everyone, no matter how broken, guilty, or lost they feel. Salvation is an undeserved gift, given to us by grace, not because we are good, but because God is good.
Application
There are times when we feel unworthy of God's love. Maybe we look at our past mistakes, the wrong choices we've made, and think, "I don't deserve forgiveness." But the truth is, no one deserves it. That’s why it’s called grace—it is a gift we did not earn and could never repay.
Think about someone in your life who may feel lost, ashamed, or unworthy. How can you show them the love of Jesus? Maybe through a kind word, a helping hand, or simply reminding them that God's grace is available to all.
Also, let’s not take this gift for granted. If someone gives us something valuable, we take care of it and cherish it. In the same way, we should treasure the salvation Jesus gave us. Let’s live in a way that honors Him—not to earn His love, but because we are grateful for it.
No matter what you’ve done, Jesus is ready to forgive you. His love is bigger than your past, and His grace is greater than your failures. All you have to do is accept the gift.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your amazing grace. I know I don’t deserve Your love, but You gave it freely through Jesus. Help me to accept this gift with a grateful heart and share Your love with others. Remind me that no one is too far from Your mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
