"When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, 'Surely he was the Son of God!'"
In Matthew 27:45-66, the Bible describes the events surrounding Jesus' crucifixion and burial. It tells of how darkness covered the land while Jesus was on the cross, followed by his cry to God and his eventual death. The passage also mentions an earthquake that occurred, leading to the tearing of the temple curtain. After Jesus died, a rich man named Joseph of Arimathea requested permission to bury him, and Jesus was placed in a tomb with a large stone covering it. To ensure the tomb remained secure, guards were posted. This section marks the end of Jesus' crucifixion and sets the stage for his resurrection.
Today, I want to share with you an encouraging devotional message that relates to Matthew 27:54. In this verse, we see a powerful declaration made by a Roman centurion, who witnessed the events surrounding the crucifixion of Jesus.
The verse tells us that when the centurion saw the way Jesus died and felt the earth shake, he exclaimed, "Truly this was the Son of God!" Just imagine the impact of those words. This Roman centurion, a soldier who had witnessed countless crucifixions, recognized the divinity of Jesus. His conviction was so strong, it burst forth in a profound statement of faith.
But what does this mean for us today? Why should we find encouragement in this moment? Well, let me share a few reasons with you.
First, this declaration reminds us that Jesus is truly the Son of God. Despite the suffering and pain He endured on the cross, His identity as the Son of God remained unshaken. It is a powerful affirmation of His
