Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: "I CAN ONLY IMAGINE"
Verse of the Day: Ecclesiastes 12:7
Devotional Message:
(Ecclesiastes 12:7)
"The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it."
Observation:
Life is short. No matter how young, strong, or healthy we are today, there will come a time when our bodies will return to the dust, just as God said in Genesis. No one can escape this reality. We can work hard, earn money, build houses, and gain success, but in the end, we will leave everything behind. Our bodies will decay, but our spirits will return to God, the One who gave us life.
This truth is both sobering and comforting. It reminds us that our time on earth is temporary, but our spirits belong to the eternal God. Sometimes, we get too focused on the things of this world—our jobs, our possessions, our ambitions—and we forget that one day, we will stand before God. When that day comes, what will truly matter? Will God welcome us with joy? Or will we regret the way we lived?
I can only imagine that moment. What will it be like to see God face to face? Will I fall on my knees in awe? Will I be able to speak, or will I be so overwhelmed by His glory? The thought is both exciting and humbling.
Application:
Since our time here is limited, we must ask ourselves: Am I living for the things that truly matter? Many people chase after wealth, fame, and comfort, but they forget about their souls. We should remember that what matters most is not how much we own but how well we live for God.
How can we prepare for the day our spirit returns to God?
1. Live with purpose. Instead of wasting time on things that don’t last, invest in things that do—like faith, love, kindness, and serving others.
2. Keep our hearts right with God. We don’t know when our time will come, so we should always be ready. If there is sin in our hearts, we need to confess it and ask for forgiveness.
3. Value relationships more than possessions. Our families, friends, and even strangers we meet along the way are more valuable than any material thing. Let’s show love, forgive quickly, and cherish the people God has placed in our lives.
4. Trust God’s plan. When we remember that our spirits belong to Him, we don’t have to fear the future. Instead, we can look forward to the day we will see Him face to face.
I can only imagine that day. Will it be full of joy, peace, and fulfillment? It depends on how we live now. If we walk with God daily, love others, and stay faithful, then we can be confident that when our spirit returns to Him, He will welcome us with open arms.
So, let’s make every day count. Let’s live as if we are preparing for the greatest homecoming of all time.
Prayer:
Father God, thank You for reminding us that life on earth is temporary, but our spirits belong to You. Help us live wisely, love deeply, and stay faithful until the day we return to You. May we be ready when we see You face to face. In Jesus' name, Amen.
