Devotional Message:
(Genesis 39:20-21)
"While Joseph was there in the prison, the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness."

Observation

Imagine what Joseph must have felt at that moment. He had done nothing wrong, yet he was thrown into prison. Before this, he was betrayed by his own brothers, sold as a slave, and taken to a foreign land. He had served faithfully in Potiphar’s house, but now he was locked away, forgotten by the world. He must have felt like the loneliest man alive.

Loneliness is one of the hardest emotions to deal with. It can feel like no one understands us or cares about us. Maybe you have experienced times when people betrayed you, falsely accused you, or abandoned you. You may have done everything right, but life still treated you unfairly. In those moments, it is easy to believe that God has left you.

But look at what the verse says: “The Lord was with him.” Even in prison, God had not abandoned Joseph. In fact, God was still blessing him, even in that dark place. God’s presence did not remove Joseph from the prison immediately, but it gave him strength, favor, and purpose while he was there.

Application

Like Joseph, we will all experience times of loneliness, rejection, and unfair treatment. Maybe you feel like you are in a prison of problems—stuck in a difficult situation with no way out. Maybe you feel forgotten, even by the people closest to you. But just as God was with Joseph, He is with you too.

1. God is with you in your struggles. Even when we don’t feel Him, He is there. His presence is not based on our emotions but on His promise to never leave us.

2. God’s plan is greater than your pain. Joseph’s prison was not the end of his story. It was actually the pathway to his promotion. God was preparing him for something greater. In the same way, your trials today may be shaping you for a better future.
