Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: "THE GOOD SHEPHERD"
Verse of the Day: Ezekiel 34:12
Devotional Message:
(Ezekiel 34:12)
"As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock...so will I look after my sheep."
Observation:
Sheep are known to be helpless animals. They cannot defend themselves, find their way home, or even look for food properly without the guidance of a shepherd. When sheep get lost, they often wander aimlessly, unaware of the dangers around them. A good shepherd watches over them carefully, making sure they are safe from harm, leading them to green pastures, and searching for them when they go astray.
In Ezekiel 34:12, God compares Himself to a shepherd who looks after His scattered flock. He promises to rescue His people from the places where they have been lost or hurt. During the time of Ezekiel, the Israelites had been scattered and broken because of their sins, but God still cared for them. Even when they strayed far away, He never gave up on them. He sought them out, ready to bring them back into His loving arms.
This verse is a powerful reminder that God is our Good Shepherd. No matter how far we have wandered, no matter how lost we feel, He is always looking for us. Even in the darkest days—when we feel confused, afraid, or burdened—He does not abandon us. Instead, He comes to find us, to heal us, and to lead us back to His fold.
Application:
Sometimes in life, we feel like lost sheep. We get distracted by the troubles of the world, our struggles, and even our own mistakes. We may feel alone, distant from God, or unsure of where to go next. But this verse assures us that God does not leave us in our lost state. He searches for us, calling us back to Him with love and mercy.
Perhaps you have been feeling distant from God lately. Maybe life has been overwhelming, and you wonder if He is still with you. The truth is, He never stops watching over you. Just like a shepherd goes out in the storm to rescue a lost sheep, God is actively reaching out to bring you back into His presence. All you need to do is respond to His call.
How can we apply this truth in our daily lives?
1. Trust in God's Guidance – Just as sheep follow their shepherd, we must follow God's direction in our lives, knowing He always leads us to what is best for us.
2. Return to Him When We Stray – If we find ourselves distant from God due to sin or distractions, we should repent and allow Him to bring us back into His loving care.
3. Be a Shepherd to Others – God also calls us to reflect His love by helping and guiding others who feel lost, just as He does for us.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being my Good Shepherd. Even when I wander, You never stop looking for me. Help me to trust in Your guidance, to stay close to You, and to lead others to Your love. Keep me safe in Your care. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
