Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: BE FILLED

Verse of the Day: Matthew 5:6

Devotional Message:
(Matthew 5:6)
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."

Observation

Hunger and thirst are powerful feelings that remind us of our need for food and water to survive. Just as our bodies cannot function without nourishment, our souls also need something to sustain them. Jesus tells us in this verse that those who deeply desire righteousness, just like someone craving food or water, are truly blessed.

Righteousness means living in a way that pleases God. It’s about having a heart that desires to do what is right, to be kind, honest, and obedient to His Word. When we pursue this, we are like someone walking through a desert who finally finds water—we are satisfied, refreshed, and filled.

God promises that if we seek Him and His ways with all our hearts, He will fill us. This filling is not about material things like wealth or fame, but about the peace, joy, and purpose that only He can give. It’s a promise that when we make Him the center of our lives, we won’t feel empty or lost.

Application

Think about the things you desire most in life. Is it success, money, or approval from others? These things might bring temporary happiness, but they often leave us wanting more. It’s like eating junk food—it fills us for a moment but doesn’t truly satisfy.

Instead, Jesus invites us to desire what truly lasts—His righteousness. How do we do this? By spending time with God in prayer, reading His Word, and living out His teachings.

For example, if someone wrongs you, instead of holding a grudge, choose to forgive because that’s what Jesus taught us. If you see someone in need, help them, because this reflects God’s love. These small acts of righteousness draw us closer to God and fill us with a sense of purpose.

Also, take a moment to examine your spiritual hunger. Are you spending more time on things that don’t matter in the long run, like worrying about what others think or chasing material things? Or are you making time for God, seeking to know Him more deeply?

God’s promise is clear: when we seek Him first, He will fill our lives with what we truly need. His peace will calm our worries, His joy will give us strength, and His love will remind us that we are never alone.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for reminding us to hunger and thirst for what truly matters—Your righteousness. Help us to desire You above all else and to seek Your ways daily. Fill our hearts with Your peace, joy, and love as we follow You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
