Devotional Message:
(Proverbs 22:6)
"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

Observation:
In today’s world, it’s easy to be drawn to “flashy” things—those that look attractive, promise quick happiness, or make us feel important. Whether it’s new gadgets, expensive clothes, or even following trends on social media, these things often catch our attention and pull us in. They seem harmless, but over time, they can shape how we think, act, and even the kind of life we pursue.

Proverbs 22:6 reminds us of an important truth: the habits and values we build early in life have a lasting impact. For children, it’s not just about teaching them to avoid “flashy” things but helping them see what truly matters—character, wisdom, kindness, and a heart that seeks God. As parents, teachers, or mentors, our responsibility is not just to provide for their physical needs but to train them spiritually, emotionally, and morally.

But what does “train” mean? It’s more than words; it’s about consistent actions. It means showing, not just telling, how to choose wisely. It means being an example in how we handle money, time, and relationships. It means teaching them that life isn’t about chasing what looks good, but about honoring God in every decision. If we do this faithfully, even when life tempts them with flashy things, they’ll have the wisdom to stay grounded in God’s truth.

Application:
Ask yourself: what are the “flashy” things in your life? Maybe it’s material possessions, social media likes, or even the pursuit of achievements that overshadow your walk with God. These things aren’t wrong in themselves, but when they take God’s place in our hearts, they become distractions.

If you’re a parent, how are you training your child to see beyond these flashy distractions? Start with small, intentional steps:
