Devotional Message:
(1 Corinthians 5:6-7)
“Your boasting about this is terrible. Don’t you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old ‘yeast’ by removing this wicked person from among you. Then you will be like a fresh batch of dough made without yeast, which is what you really are. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.”

In 1 Corinthians 5:6-7, Paul uses the example of yeast in bread to teach us an important lesson. When you bake bread, you only need a tiny bit of yeast to make the whole dough rise. Paul is saying that just like yeast affects the entire dough, even a small amount of sin can affect our whole lives and community.

Sometimes, we might think that little sins don’t matter. Maybe it’s a small lie, a bit of gossip, or a tiny moment of jealousy. We might think these are too small to cause any real harm. But Paul reminds us that even these small things can grow and affect us more than we realize. Just as yeast spreads through the dough, sin can spread through our hearts and lives.

So, what should we do? Paul tells us to get rid of the old yeast – to remove the sin from our lives. This might seem like a big task, but it’s possible because of Jesus. Paul says that we are like new, fresh batch of dough because Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed for us. Jesus died to take away our sins and to give us a fresh start.

Because of Jesus, we can be new and pure. This means making conscious choices every day to live according to God’s will. It means asking for forgiveness when we do wrong and striving to do better. It also means helping each other to stay on the right path, encouraging one another to live lives that honor God.

Think about how you can remove the “old yeast” from your life. Are there habits or behaviors that you need to change? Are
