Walking in the Light
This verse is teaching us about the importance of who we choose to be close to in our lives.
When Paul talks about being "yoked together," he is using the image of two animals, like oxen, being joined together to pull a plow. If the two animals are not the same size or strength, they can't work well together. They will struggle, and the work will be much harder. In the same way, Paul is telling us that if we are closely connected to people who do not share our faith and values, it can cause problems and make it harder for us to live out our faith.
This doesn't mean we should avoid all contact with non-believers. Jesus spent time with all kinds of people, showing them love and kindness. What it means is that we should be careful about who we allow to have the most influence in our lives. Our closest friends and partners should be those who encourage us to grow in our relationship with God and live according to His teachings.
Think about your closest relationships. Are they helping you to become more like Jesus, or are they pulling you away from Him? Sometimes, we might need to make tough decisions to distance ourselves from relationships that are harmful to our faith. This can be hard, but God promises to be with us and to help us find new, healthy relationships that support our spiritual growth.
It's also important to remember that we are called to be a light in the world. We can build friendships with non-believers and show them God's love through our actions. By living out our faith with integrity and kindness, we can influence others positively.
Let’s pray for wisdom and
