Devotional Topic: "FREE IN THE SPIRIT"
Verse of the Day: Acts 4:13
Devotional Message:
(Acts 4:13)
"They were unschooled, ordinary men,...and they took note that these men had been with Jesus."
🔎 Observation: Power Doesn’t Come from Credentials
In Acts 4, Peter and John were standing before religious leaders—well-educated, powerful men. The disciples had no formal education. They didn’t have influence, riches, or degrees. Yet when they spoke, the leaders were astonished.
Why?
Because these ordinary men had been with Jesus.
They didn’t speak with arrogance, but with confidence. They didn’t show off knowledge, but they revealed wisdom from experience—wisdom that came from walking daily with Christ.
The verse tells us: “They were unschooled, ordinary men…” That’s not an insult. That’s evidence that God’s power shines brightest through ordinary people who surrender fully to Him.
Peter had denied Jesus before. John had once wanted to call down fire on people. But now, filled with the Holy Spirit, they stood boldly, unafraid, unashamed.
They didn’t need titles. They didn’t need approval. They had something far more powerful—they had been with Jesus, and it showed.
🛠 Application: Confidence Rooted in Christ, Not Comparison
Let’s be honest—we live in a world that measures your worth by your credentials.
Where you studied. Who you know. How many followers you have. How good your grammar is.
And sometimes, it makes us feel small, disqualified, or unnoticed.
But Acts 4:13 is a powerful reminder: The world might label you ordinary, but when you walk with Jesus, the world will take notice.
Here’s how we live that out:
1. Stop Disqualifying Yourself
You may think, “I’m not smart enough. I’m not good at speaking. I’ve made too many mistakes.”
But the disciples were just fishermen, tax collectors, and even former rebels.
God isn’t looking for perfect people—He’s looking for available hearts.
|| Example: Don’t hold back from sharing your testimony just because you’re not a “church leader.” What you’ve lived is more powerful than what someone else has only read.
2. Spend Time with Jesus, Not Just for Him
Peter and John didn’t just work for Jesus—they walked with Him. Their boldness came from time in His presence.
|| Example: Don’t just serve in ministry out of duty—set aside personal time in prayer and worship where no one’s watching. Intimacy with God fuels impact.
3. Let the Spirit Speak Through You
The religious leaders were amazed not just by their boldness—but by their clarity. These men spoke truth that cut deep, not because they had training, but because they were led by the Holy Spirit.
|| Example: Before replying to someone hurting or asking for advice, pause and pray: “Holy Spirit, speak through me.” Don’t rely on fancy words—rely on God’s voice.
4. Freedom Isn’t Always Outside—It’s Inside
Peter and John were jailed for preaching, yet their spirits weren’t locked. Just like Girlie in the elevator—they were free inside because of who was with them.
|| Example: Even if you’re stuck in a job, a sickness, or a season that feels limiting—remember, you can still walk in spiritual freedom if you walk with Jesus daily.
5. Ordinary Doesn’t Mean Useless—It Means Available
God often chooses the ones others overlook. Why? Because when something powerful comes from someone “ordinary,” the world knows it’s not from them—it’s from God.
|| Example: If you’re a student, a stay-at-home mom, or someone without a fancy title—don't let the world tell you your impact is small. Your obedience makes Heaven move.
💬 Encouragement
You don’t need to be famous, fluent, or flawless.
You just need to be with Jesus.
Your freedom doesn’t start when life gets easier—it starts when Christ becomes enough.
Even if you feel locked in a situation, the Spirit makes your heart free.
And when you walk closely with Jesus, people will notice—even if they don’t know how to explain it.
So don’t try to look powerful—just stay close to the Powerful One.
Prayer:
Lord, I may be ordinary in the world’s eyes, but I want to walk closely with You. Fill me with Your Spirit. Let people see You in me, not because I’m qualified—but because I’ve been with You. Make me bold. Make me free. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
