(Genesis 2:16-17)
"You are free...but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil."

👁️🗨️ Observation: God’s Warnings Come From His Heart

In the garden of Eden, God gave Adam and Eve freedom—freedom to enjoy His creation, name the animals, walk in the cool of the day, and eat from any tree except one.

That one tree wasn’t a trap. It was a boundary. A reminder that even in paradise, obedience matters.

We sometimes misunderstand God’s commands. We think they’re controlling or unfair. But every command of God flows from His perfect love. Just like Nate’s grandfather, God gives boundaries not to withhold joy but to protect us from pain.

In Genesis 2:16–17, God said: “You are free… but you must not…” Notice how freedom comes first. Obedience doesn’t take away freedom—it protects it. Real freedom isn’t doing whatever we want—it’s living within the safety of God’s design.

Like Nate, we often stand before a “locked greenhouse” in our lives. Maybe it's a relationship God warned us about. Maybe it's a habit we keep returning to. We hear God say, “Don't open that door,” but our curiosity or desire whispers, “Just once won’t hurt.”

But it does hurt. Slowly, sin burns through the blessings we once enjoyed, and by the time we realize it, something has been lost—peace, trust, purpose, joy.

God isn’t trying to spoil our lives. He’s trying to spare us.

🛠️ Application: Choosing Trust Over Curiosity

So how can we live out this truth in real life? What does freeing obedience look like?

1. Pause When You Hear "No" From God

When God says “no,” don’t rush past it. Sit with it. Ask: “What is God protecting me from?” Trust His heart even when your mind wants answers.

Example: If you're tempted to lie to cover a mistake, pause. God’s command not to lie isn’t to shame you—it’s to keep your soul clean and your relationships safe.
