Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: "HE MAKES US NEW"
Verse of the Day: John 6:12
Devotional Message:
(John 6:12)
"Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted."
🔍 Observation: God Doesn’t Waste Anything
In John 6, Jesus feeds a massive crowd using only five loaves of bread and two fish. After everyone had eaten and was full, He told His disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.”
It’s a simple instruction—pick up the leftovers. But it reveals something powerful about God’s heart. He is not wasteful. He sees value in what others might throw away.
God doesn’t just multiply resources—He honors the small, the broken, the forgotten. In the eyes of people, leftovers are trash. But in the eyes of Jesus, they are still part of the miracle.
This verse isn’t just about bread—it’s about people. It's about you and me. Even when we feel like what’s left of us isn’t much—God says, “Let nothing be wasted.”
Your pain, your failure, your regret, your weakness, your past—God can gather it. He doesn’t overlook broken parts. He collects them. He heals. He makes all things new.
🛠 Application: Living as Gathered Pieces
Here’s how we can live this out in daily life:
1. Don’t Despise Your “Leftovers”
There are seasons when you may feel like a leftover version of yourself—burned out, ashamed, unnoticed. Maybe you think you’ve missed your chance, or that God can only use the “whole” and “strong” you.
But God says, “Let nothing be wasted.” Your story—even the messy parts—has value in His hands.
✅ Application: Reflect on areas in your life you consider “too broken” or “too late.” Invite God to redeem them.
2. Trust God With Your Scattered Pieces
Sometimes life shatters us—through grief, mistakes, or rejection. But God doesn’t walk away. He gathers every piece and puts them together with purpose.
He’s the only one who can take what’s been scattered and shape it into something stronger.
✅ Application: Surrender what’s broken. Pray: “Lord, I don’t see how this can be used, but I give it to You.”
3. Let God Rewrite Your Story
God specializes in restoration. Think of Peter—who denied Jesus three times, yet was still called to lead. Think of Paul—who persecuted Christians, but wrote much of the New Testament.
They were broken… then gathered… and used by God.
✅ Application: Don’t let past failure define your future. God still has a plan for you.
4. Be Part of the Gathering
Jesus didn’t gather the leftovers Himself—He told the disciples to do it. That means we also have a role: to gather, to care for the broken, to value the ones others might discard.
✅ Application: Who around you feels forgotten? Encourage someone today who thinks they’re not “useful” anymore.
5. Remember: Broken Doesn’t Mean Useless
A cracked mirror still reflects light. A torn cloth can still warm. A broken heart, surrendered to God, can still love deeply and speak healing.
In God’s hands, nothing is wasted—not even the parts we want to throw away.
✅ Application: Start thanking God for your scars. They’re part of the testimony He’s writing in your life.
Prayer:
Lord, gather every broken part of me. Use what I see as useless and make it new. Teach me to trust You with the pieces of my life. Help me see value in others the way You see value in me. Nothing is wasted in Your hands. Amen.
