Devotional Message:
(Luke 22:61-62)
"The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: 'Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.' And he went outside and wept bitterly."

This passage highlights a significant event in Peter’s life. Let’s explore what we can learn from it.

1. Jesus’ Awareness and Compassion: Even during His own trial, Jesus was aware of Peter. When Peter denied Jesus for the third time, Jesus turned and looked at him. This look wasn’t one of condemnation but of knowing compassion. Jesus understands our weaknesses and our failures. Just as He knew Peter would deny Him, He knows when we will fall short. Yet, He remains compassionate and loving towards us.

2. Peter’s Realization and Sorrow: Peter’s reaction was immediate. When Jesus looked at him, Peter remembered Jesus’ words and realized his failure. He went outside and wept bitterly. This shows Peter’s deep sorrow and regret. When we fail or make mistakes, it’s important to recognize them and feel genuine remorse. This is the first step towards repentance and healing.

3. The Path to Restoration: Peter’s story doesn’t end with his denial. After Jesus’ resurrection, Peter was restored. Jesus asked him three times if he loved Him, giving Peter the chance to reaffirm his commitment (John 21:15-17). This shows that no matter how badly we fail, Jesus offers us a path to restoration. Our failures are not the end. They can lead to new beginnings if we turn back to Jesus.

Practical Application:

- Recognize Jesus’ Compassion: Understand that Jesus sees and knows everything about us. He looks at us with compassion, even when we fail. His awareness of our weaknesses is coupled with His desire to restore us.
