Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: "EASY MONEY"

Verse of the Day: Matthew 6:21

Devotional Message:
(Matthew 6:21)
"Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

👁 Observation: The True Location of the Heart

Jesus didn’t say, “Where your heart is, your treasure will follow.” He said the opposite. Why? Because our hearts follow what we treasure.
Whatever we value most—whatever we protect, rely on, and revolve our decisions around—that’s where our heart ends up.

Ezra didn’t worship money with candles or offerings. But he placed his security, his emotional peace, and his future in that drawer. It became his anchor, his hidden altar.
This verse in Matthew isn’t just about money—it’s about what captures your loyalty. For some, it’s success. For others, it’s a relationship, reputation, or possession.

God is not against planning or saving. What He’s against is replacing Him with created things that can't truly secure us. When we treasure something more than Him, our hearts slowly drift in that direction, and we stop hearing His voice.

🛠 Application: What’s in Your Drawer?

Let’s reflect deeply and practically. What’s your “locked drawer”? Where do you go when life gets hard? What do you cling to when you feel empty or afraid?

1. Ask Yourself: What Do I Protect Most?

Is there something you’d defend more than your walk with God? Time, money, an ambition, an image, a comfort? That’s your treasure. And that’s where your heart has quietly moved.

|| Example: If you miss time with God just to hustle more and make money, you’ve already made a trade.

2. Examine What You Talk About Most

Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” What you constantly think or speak about reveals your hidden treasure.

|| Example: If your biggest daily excitement is your phone notifications or your online following, consider whether that’s where your heart now lives.

3. Test What Happens When It's Threatened

If something is taken away or blocked and your peace is shattered, that may be a sign you’ve built your life around it.

|| Example: If losing your job makes you feel like losing your identity, you may have placed your worth in your career instead of God.

4. Shift the Weight

It's not wrong to have goals, money, or relationships—but never let them carry the weight of your heart. That place belongs to God alone.

|| Example: Instead of saying, “My job gives me peace,” practice saying, “God is my provider—He uses my job, but He is the source.”

5. Refocus Through the Word

Faith comes by hearing—and hearing by the Word of Christ. Let Scripture shape your priorities again. The more we listen to God’s Word, the more we realign our hearts with heaven’s treasure.

|| Practical step: Spend 10 minutes each morning meditating on a verse before checking your phone. Let God speak before the world does.

💡 Encouragement Before Prayer

Maybe today, like Ezra, you realize that your heart has quietly drifted to something that cannot truly save you. The good news is: God never locks you out. No matter how long you've treasured the wrong things, He’s still calling you back.

God wants to be your anchor, your peace, your security, your portion. He doesn’t want to take away your joy—He wants to give you true joy, one that can’t burn, fade, or vanish.

The treasures of this world are temporary, but the treasure of knowing Christ is eternal. Real peace isn’t found in a drawer, a dollar, or a dream—it’s found in the presence of the One who never changes.

Prayer:
Lord, we confess that our hearts often chase after things that cannot save us. Search us. Show us what we’ve treasured more than You. Help us to turn back and put You first again. May our treasure be in heaven—and our hearts follow. Amen.
