Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: "YOU ARE HEARD"
Verse of the Day: Psalm 116:2
Devotional Message:
(Psalm 116:2)
"He turned his ear to me."
Observation:
Psalm 116 is a personal song of thanksgiving. The writer is reflecting on a time when he was in great distress—maybe even on the brink of death. But something powerful happened: God heard him. Verse 2 captures that moment of realization. The psalmist says, "Because he turned his ear to me…"
That image is so personal. It's not a distant God behind a locked door. It’s a picture of a caring Father who leans in, listening closely to His child. When you talk to God, He doesn’t tune you out. He doesn’t sigh in annoyance or pretend to be busy. He turns His ear to you—meaning, He intentionally listens. This tells us something deep about the nature of God: He wants relationship, not just routine. He hears our voices, our cries, even our whispers.
And this leads the writer to make a decision: “I will call on him as long as I live.” Because God listens, the psalmist commits to keep praying. He doesn’t just thank God and move on—he builds a lifelong habit of communication with the One who hears.
Now, let’s think practically. Why is this verse so important for us today? Because many of us feel ignored. In a world filled with noise—notifications, opinions, distractions—it’s easy to feel like our voice is just one among millions. Even when we talk to people, we’re not always heard. Sometimes we get interrupted, misunderstood, or brushed aside. That can hurt. And after a while, it’s tempting to believe that even God might not be listening.
But Psalm 116:2 is a promise that we are heard. God doesn't need to be convinced to care. He doesn’t need to be shouted at to pay attention. His ear is already turned toward you. The God who made the stars is tuned in to your sighs, your struggles, and your quiet prayers.
Application:
So how do we respond to a God who hears us?
1. Talk to Him honestly.
You don’t have to pretend with God. If you're sad, tell Him. If you're angry, say it. If you're thankful, let it pour out. He’s not just listening to your words; He’s listening to your heart.
2. Make prayer a lifestyle, not a last resort.
The psalmist says, “I will call on him as long as I live.” Not just when life is falling apart. Not only when we’re desperate. God wants to be part of our everyday moments—our decisions, dreams, and disappointments.
3. Trust that even when you don't “feel” heard, you are.
Sometimes it feels like heaven is silent. But God’s silence is never His absence. When you pray, something always happens—even if it’s not immediate or visible. Keep trusting. Keep calling. Keep showing up.
4. Remind others they are heard too.
We live in a hurting world. Your friend, coworker, or family member may be feeling forgotten or invisible. When you remind them that God listens, you’re giving them hope. Share this truth: “You are heard.”
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for turning Your ear to me. Help me to keep calling on You with trust, knowing that You always hear me. Amen.
