Devotional Message:
(Luke 5:20)
"When Jesus saw their faith, he said, 'Friend, your sins are forgiven.'"

Imagine the scene. Jesus is teaching in a crowded house. People have come from far and wide to hear Him speak. Among the crowd are Pharisees and teachers of the law, watching and listening intently. Suddenly, there’s a commotion. The roof above starts to open up, and a group of men are lowering their paralyzed friend on a mat right in front of Jesus.

These friends believed so deeply in Jesus’ ability to heal that they went to great lengths to bring their friend to Him. They didn’t let the crowd stop them. They didn’t let the physical barrier of the roof stop them. Their faith was persistent and creative. And when Jesus saw this faith, He responded in an unexpected way. He didn’t just address the man’s physical condition first. Instead, He said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

This moment teaches us several important lessons about faith, forgiveness, and the nature of Jesus’ ministry.

Firstly, faith often requires action. The friends of the paralyzed man didn’t sit back and wait for a convenient moment. They took bold, even risky, steps to bring their friend to Jesus. Their actions were a visible demonstration of their faith. For us, this means that sometimes we need to step out in faith, even when it’s difficult or inconvenient. It might involve helping a friend in need, standing up for what is right, or simply making time to pray and seek God amidst our busy lives.

Secondly, Jesus sees and responds to our faith. Sometimes we may feel that our efforts go unnoticed or that our faith is too small to make a difference. But this passage reminds us that Jesus sees every act of faith, no matter how big or small. He honors our efforts to draw near to Him.
