Devotional Message:
(Ephesians 5:14)
"Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

Observation:

This verse from Ephesians is both a warning and a promise. Paul is writing to believers—people who already know Christ. And yet, he says, “Wake up.” That should catch our attention. Why would Paul tell Christians to wake up? Because it’s possible to know Jesus, to go to church, and still be spiritually asleep.

Think about sleep for a second. When you’re asleep, you’re disconnected from what’s going on around you. The world keeps moving, but you’re not aware. You're not participating. Spiritually, the same thing can happen. We might be alive physically, but numb spiritually. We might be breathing, walking, working—but our heart is distant from God. We might be so distracted, so tired, so caught up in our routine that we lose our sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.

Paul says, “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead.” He’s not talking about literal death. He’s speaking about spiritual deadness. The kind of death where we’ve stopped praying like we used to. We’ve stopped caring like we used to. We’ve stopped seeking God like we once did. Our passion is gone. Our fire is gone. We know the right things, but we no longer feel the urgency to live them out.

Can you relate? Have you ever found yourself spiritually dry? Just going through the motions—showing up to church, maybe singing the songs, maybe reading your Bible here and there—but inside, you’re empty? It’s not that you don’t believe anymore. It’s just that you’ve gotten sleepy. Slowly, without even realizing it, you’ve drifted.

Paul is calling us back. He’s saying, “This is not a dream. This is not a test. This is your life. And Christ is ready to shine on you—if you’ll wake up.”

Let’s not miss the last part: “And Christ will shine on you.” That’s the promise. Christ’s light—His presence, His wisdom, His
