Devotional Message:
(Exodus 2:14)
"Moses was afraid and thought, "What I did must have become known."

Observation:

This verse is a snapshot of a very painful moment in Moses' life. It shows us a man who thought he was doing the right thing but quickly realized he had made a terrible mistake.

Let’s look at what happened just before this. Moses, though raised as an Egyptian prince, knew in his heart that he was Hebrew. One day, he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew slave. In a burst of anger and justice, Moses killed the Egyptian and buried him in the sand. The next day, he saw two Hebrews fighting and tried to stop them. But instead of thanking him, one of them snapped, “Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you going to kill me too?”

That single question shook Moses to his core. It was like a mirror reflecting back everything he feared. The people didn’t see him as a leader—they saw him as a murderer. He had hoped to be accepted. Instead, he felt exposed, rejected, and afraid.

This moment is important because it reminds us how even people with a calling on their lives can start out in the wrong way. Moses had a passion for justice. He wanted to help his people. But he acted in his own strength. He rushed ahead of God’s timing. And it didn’t work.

But the beauty of this story is that it doesn't end here. Yes, Moses failed. Yes, he ran away to the wilderness. But God didn’t give up on him. In fact, this failure became the doorway to a deeper journey with God. Moses would spend the next 40 years in the wilderness—not as a punishment, but as preparation. God was getting him ready for something greater.

Application:

There are several practical lessons we can take from this passage. Let’s break them down.

1. Our mistakes do not cancel God’s plan.
