Devotional Message:
(Isaiah 61:1)
"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners..."

Observation:

This verse comes from the book of Isaiah, but it was also famously quoted by Jesus in Luke 4 when He stood in the synagogue and read it aloud. After reading, He said, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” In doing so, Jesus was declaring that He was the fulfillment of this prophecy. He was the one anointed by God to bring healing, freedom, and light.

Notice the people mentioned in this verse:

The poor

The brokenhearted

The captives

The prisoners

These are not just physical conditions; they describe the inner condition of so many people. You can be rich and still feel poor in spirit. You can smile in public and be brokenhearted inside. You can be free physically and still be a prisoner to pain, fear, bitterness, guilt, or shame.

Jesus came not just to save our souls, but to heal our hearts. His mission was to seek out those who are wounded on the inside—to bring restoration and hope to those who feel crushed, unseen, or stuck in life.

Isaiah says, “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted.” The word "bind" suggests care and intentionality—like a nurse gently wrapping a wound. God doesn't ignore your pain; He tends to it. He cares for it. He wants to heal it completely.

Application:

Many of us are good at hiding our inner wounds. We keep going, keep working, keep smiling—but inside, we’re still carrying deep pain. Maybe it’s pain from your childhood. Maybe it’s betrayal from someone you trusted. Maybe it’s guilt over something you've done, or fear that never leaves.

Some of us have tried to heal these wounds with distractions—busyness, entertainment,
