Devotional Message:
(John 12:13)
"They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, 'Hosanna!' 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!' 'Blessed is the king of Israel!'"

Observation:

In John 12:13, we see a beautiful scene. Jesus enters Jerusalem, and the people, recognizing who He is, gather with excitement, waving palm branches and shouting, “Hosanna!” which means “Save us, now!” They’re filled with hope, knowing that Jesus is the one God sent to fulfill His promises to Israel. They see Him as the long-awaited Savior, the one who comes with God’s authority and love. In their eyes, He’s not just a good teacher or a prophet but the King who has come to save them.

But there’s something interesting to notice. While they welcomed Jesus with enthusiasm, they had certain expectations. Many of them believed He would bring political freedom and deliver them from Roman rule. However, Jesus came to save them—and us—from something much bigger: the bondage of sin and the brokenness in our lives and our world. He came to offer a deeper, lasting freedom that goes beyond temporary problems. Jesus was entering Jerusalem not to rule with political power, but to lay down His life and offer us eternal life.

Application:

Like the crowd that welcomed Jesus, we often have expectations about how we want Him to “save” us. Maybe we want Him to fix our problems instantly, heal our pain, or provide material blessings. And while Jesus cares about these needs, He wants to go deeper. He’s more interested in transforming our hearts, building our character, and helping us grow closer to God.

Let’s ask ourselves: how are we welcoming Jesus into our lives? Are we open to letting Him work in every part of our hearts, even in the areas we try to hide or control? Are we willing to trust Him, even if His ways don’t always match our expectations?
