Devotional Message:
(1 John 1:9)
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Observation
In this verse, the apostle John tells us that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Let’s think about this closely.

First, notice the word “if.” This shows that confession is a choice. God doesn’t force us to admit our sins, but He lovingly invites us to. When we come to Him in honesty, we are acknowledging that we need His help. This act of confession is not about making us feel ashamed or guilty—it’s about freeing us from the weight of our mistakes.

Second, we see two important qualities of God: He is faithful and just. Faithful means that God always keeps His promises. If He says He will forgive, He will do it. He won’t change His mind or hold grudges. Just means that He deals with sin in a way that is fair and right. Through Jesus, God has already paid the price for our sins, so we don’t have to carry the burden anymore.

Lastly, the verse ends with a promise: God will “purify us from all unrighteousness.” This means He doesn’t just forgive us, but He also cleanses our hearts and helps us live better lives. Confession is not the end—it’s the start of a renewed relationship with God.
