Devotional Message:
(2 Timothy 1:7)
"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline."

Observation:
In this verse, the Apostle Paul is writing to his younger disciple, Timothy. Timothy was facing challenges in leading the early church, and Paul wanted to remind him of the power God had given him through the Holy Spirit. Paul reassured Timothy that God does not give us a spirit of fear or timidity. Instead, God’s Spirit gives us power, love, and self-discipline. These three traits are crucial for anyone walking in faith.

Let’s break this down. First, God gives us power. This is not physical power, but spiritual strength—the ability to face challenges, endure hardships, and stand firm in our faith. Many times, we feel weak, discouraged, or overwhelmed. But Paul is telling us that in those moments, God has already given us the power we need through His Spirit. It’s not something we have to earn or work for; it’s already in us as believers.

Second, God gives us love. Often, fear can make us self-centered, focusing on our own struggles or fears. But God's Spirit helps us to love others, even when we feel afraid or uncertain. Love drives out fear (1 John 4:18), and it empowers us to serve, forgive, and show compassion even when it’s difficult. We are called to live out this love, and through the Spirit, we can.

Lastly, we are given self-discipline, or sound mind. This means having control over our thoughts, emotions, and actions. Fear can make us anxious, scattered, and reactive. But the Spirit of God gives us a clear and calm mind to make wise decisions and stay focused on what God has called us to do. Through self-discipline, we can stay steady and faithful in our journey with Christ, even in the face of fear or opposition.

Application:
How does this apply to us today? Many of us struggle with fear,
