Devotional Topic: Faith: Trusting Beyond What We See
Hebrews 11:1-16
Verse of the Day: Hebrews 11:1
Devotional Message:
(Hebrews 11:1)
"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
Devotional Message:
Have you ever walked into a room when it was completely dark? For a moment, you can’t see where you’re going, and you have to trust your memory or the layout of the room to guide your steps. You might stretch out your hand, feeling for the wall or a piece of furniture, believing it’s there, even though you can’t see it. In the same way, Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is having confidence in what we hope for and assurance in what we do not see. It’s about trusting that God is with us, even when we can’t see the full picture.
Faith is not about having all the answers or seeing the whole plan in front of us. It’s about believing that God is working, even when things don’t make sense. We all face situations where we feel uncertain or afraid. Maybe you’re facing a big decision, or you’re going through a tough time at work, in your family, or with your health. In those moments, faith reminds us that God is still in control, even when the path seems unclear.
Take a moment to think about some of the people mentioned later in Hebrews 11, like Abraham and Sarah. God told Abraham to leave everything behind and go to a place he had never seen before. Abraham didn’t know where he was going, but he trusted God and obeyed. Sarah was promised a child, even though she was too old by human standards. Both of them held onto the promise of God, even though they couldn’t see how it would happen. Their faith wasn’t based on what they saw or understood—it was based on trusting God’s word and His faithfulness.
What does this mean for us today? It means we can face challenges with hope. We don’t need to see the end of the road to trust that God is leading us. Maybe you’ve been praying for something for a long time—faith means believing that God hears your prayers, even if the answer hasn’t come yet. Maybe you’re feeling unsure about the future—faith means knowing that God has a plan for you, even if you don’t see it now.
Faith is like planting a seed. You can’t see what’s happening underground, but you trust that, with time, something will grow. In the same way, when we place our faith in God, we are trusting that He is working, even when we can’t see it yet. It may take time, but faith holds onto hope that God’s promises will come to pass.
Application: Ask yourself, "Where in my life do I need to trust God more?" Is it in your relationships, your job, or maybe your health? Whatever it is, remember that faith doesn’t mean everything will be easy or make sense right away. It means trusting God, step by step, believing that He is guiding you and that His plans are good.
When doubts arise, remind yourself of God’s promises in the Bible, just like Abraham and Sarah did. They didn’t always have the answers, but they trusted in the One who did.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for reminding us that faith is trusting in what we cannot see. Help us to walk in faith daily, believing in Your promises and trusting in Your plans. Guide our steps and strengthen our hearts when we feel uncertain. In Jesus' name, Amen.
