Devotional Message:
(Philippians 1:21-23)
“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far.”

In this verse, the Apostle Paul gives us an incredible perspective on life and death. He writes, "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." What does Paul mean by this? Paul lived his entire life for Jesus. Everything he did, whether preaching, teaching, or even suffering in prison, was for Christ. He found purpose, joy, and fulfillment in serving Jesus. That’s what he means when he says, "To live is Christ." His life had meaning because it was fully centered on Jesus and His work.

But then Paul says something even more powerful: "To die is gain." To many of us, death seems like a loss—losing our family, our work, our time here on earth. But for Paul, death meant something completely different. He knew that after death, he would be with Jesus forever, and that was far better than anything this world could offer. He wasn’t afraid of death; he welcomed it because he knew it meant being united with Christ.

Observation: Let’s break this down. Paul’s life was filled with purpose because he lived it for Christ. That gave him joy in every circumstance, even while he was suffering. Many of us struggle to find meaning in our daily lives. We might get caught up in the routine of work, school, or family life, and it’s easy to lose sight of why we’re here. But Paul reminds us that as believers, our lives have a higher purpose—to live for Christ in everything we do. Whether we’re at work, caring for our families, or even facing difficult times, we can do it all for Jesus. That gives every part of our lives meaning.
