Devotional Message:
(Galatians 4:9)
"But now that you know God—or rather are known by God—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?"

In this verse, Paul is writing to the Galatians, expressing his deep concern that they were turning away from the freedom they had found in Christ and were returning to old ways of thinking and living that once enslaved them. The Galatians had come to know God and had been known by God, which is a deep and intimate relationship. Yet, they were being tempted to go back to the very things that had once controlled them—things Paul describes as "weak and miserable forces." These could be old habits, rituals, or beliefs that offered no real power or freedom, only the illusion of it.

Paul's message is clear: Once we have experienced the love and grace of God, we should not return to the things that once held us captive. These old ways might feel familiar, but they are powerless compared to the new life we have in Christ. They are "weak and miserable" because they cannot give us the peace, joy, or purpose that comes from knowing God. Instead, they drag us back into a cycle of frustration and bondage.

Paul reminds us that knowing God, and being known by Him, is the greatest treasure. It means we are loved, accepted, and free from the need to prove ourselves or follow empty rituals. But the temptation to return to old ways is real, especially when life gets difficult or when we feel uncertain about our faith. We might be drawn back to habits that once gave us comfort or security, even if they ultimately led to emptiness.
