Devotional Message:
(Colossians 3:12)
"Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."

Observation:

In this verse, Paul reminds us that we are God’s chosen people, loved deeply by Him. This verse calls us to "clothe" ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. It’s as if Paul is asking us to put on these virtues every day, just like we put on clothes. Think about how you choose your outfit in the morning—it’s something you carefully do, making sure it’s appropriate for the day ahead. Paul wants us to be just as intentional about putting on these godly traits.

Let’s break down each of these "clothes." Compassion is about feeling for others, being able to understand and share in their struggles. Kindness is about doing good to others, even when they don’t deserve it. Humility means not thinking too highly of ourselves, but instead, lifting others up. Gentleness is using a soft touch, in both words and actions, and patience is the ability to endure with grace when things don’t go our way.

Now, these qualities don’t come naturally. We live in a world that often encourages us to be the opposite—to be selfish, proud, quick to anger, and impatient. It’s easy to get wrapped up in our own needs and forget about the people around us. That’s why Paul urges us to “clothe” ourselves, to be intentional about showing these virtues in our lives.

Application:

Think about how you can apply this in your everyday life. When someone is rude to you, instead of snapping back, can you show kindness? When things don’t go your way, can you practice patience? When a friend or family member is struggling, can you offer compassion and a listening ear?
