Devotional Message:
(Ephesians 2:8-9)
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast."

Let’s think for a moment about gifts. Imagine it’s your birthday, and someone you love gives you a beautifully wrapped present. You don’t have to pay for it, you don’t have to work for it—it’s freely given to you out of love. All you have to do is receive it and enjoy it. Now, think of how strange it would be if you responded by pulling out your wallet and saying, “How much do I owe you for this gift?” It would be confusing, right? Because gifts aren’t something we earn or pay for. They’re acts of kindness, expressions of love.

In Ephesians 2:8-9, Paul reminds us that salvation is a gift from God, given to us by grace through faith. It’s not something we can earn by being good enough or by doing all the right things. God, in His love and mercy, offers us the gift of salvation freely. Grace is God’s unearned favor—His kindness towards us, even though we don’t deserve it. We are saved because of what Jesus has done for us on the cross, not because of anything we have done.

This truth can be hard for us to grasp sometimes. We live in a world where we often feel like we need to earn our way—whether it's in school, at work, or even in relationships. But God’s kingdom doesn’t work like that. He doesn’t love us based on how good we are or how many “Christian things” we do. We don’t earn His forgiveness or approval by our works. Instead, He gives us salvation as a gift, and our response is to accept it by trusting in Him.

So what does this mean for us practically? First, it means we can stop trying to earn God’s love. We don’t need to exhaust ourselves with the idea that we must be “good enough” to be saved. God’s love isn’t based on our performance. We
