DAY 15: Wednesday of Second Week of Lent - SPIRITUAL JOURNEY FROM LENT TOWARDS EASTER
The Prophet Jeremiah in the first reading (Jer 18: 18-20) laments on how the people of Judah and Jerusalem contrive and plot evil against him even though he speaks and prays in their behalf to turn away God's wrath from them. Likewise, our Lord Jesus on a reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (Mt 20: 17-28) prophesies that He too will endure the same from the elders, chief priests and scribes. He expects to suffer extremely and will be put to death but will be raised on the third day. Here the Lord reveals that "the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many." In accompanying us in our spiritual journey on this season of Lent, Fr. Budge reflects further on both the readings of the day.
