Day 8: Wednesday of the First Week of Lent | SPIRITUAL JOURNEY FROM LENT TOWARDS EASTER

Rev. Fr. Salvador "Budge" O. Orara, Jr. gives his piece on the First Reading (Jon 3: 1-10) and the Holy Gospel according to Luke (Lk 11:29-32). First Reading narrates how Jonah reluctantly preached to Nineveh about the impending wrath of God because of their sins against God. Upon hearing Jonah's warning the whole of Nineveh repented. God saw their actions of sincerely begging for forgiveness. The Lord withhold His punishment and repented on his threat of annihilation of the whole of Nineveh. This demonstrates God's readiness to forgive those whose hearts are contrite and humbled. When the generation of Jews during Jesus' time failed to heed His voice as He proclaims the Kingdom of God, Jesus lamented the stubbornness of their hearts. He declares that Nineveh is better off than their generation. Upon the preaching of Jonah, the people repented and turned from their wicked ways. But the Jews failed and refused to recognize Jesus who is far more greater than Jonah and all the prophets. Jesus have mercy on your people!
