💁🏻 Joshua And The Fall Of Jericho – Obedience Before Victory
Jericho was the first city Israel faced after crossing the Jordan River. It had strong walls and closed gates (Joshua 6:1). Humanly speaking, Israel could not break through. But God gave Joshua unusual instructions. The people were to march around the city once a day for six days. Seven priests were to blow trumpets. On the seventh day, they were to march around the city seven times, and then shout (Joshua 6:3–5). This plan did not sound like a normal battle strategy. There were no ladders, no weapons used against the walls, and no fighting at first. Yet Joshua and the people obeyed exactly as the Lord commanded (Joshua 6:8–16). When they shouted on the seventh day, the walls fell down flat (Joshua 6:20). The victory clearly came from God’s power, not from human strength. Hebrews 11:30 says, “By faith the walls of Jericho fell down.” Their obedience showed that they trusted God’s Word. This story teaches that salvation and victory belong to the Lord alone (Psalm 3:8). God’s people do not win by their own wisdom or power. Yet God uses means—He calls His people to faithful obedience. Their obedience did not cause the power; it expressed their faith in the God who promised. In the same way, believers today trust in Christ’s finished work, not their own efforts (Ephesians 2:8–9), and then walk in obedience because they belong to Him (Ephesians 2:10).
