"Encouraging Zerubbabel" (Zechariah 4:1-14) Pastor Anne Lao July 6, 2025 Sunday Service
This morning, we will be taking our text from one of the books of the minor prophets, the book of Zechariah. We will be looking at how a vision from God was given to encourage a leader in Israel who kept experiencing one setback after another.
What is a setback:
“A setback is an event that makes you lose progress or keeps you from gaining ground. Ex: If warring countries are negotiating a treaty, a sudden resurgence of fighting would be a huge setback for their peace plan. And if you're trying to finish baking in time for your friend's birthday party, knocking the frosted cake onto the floor would also be a setback.” (Vocabulary.com)
We all experience setbacks… We want things done, but instead we experience setbacks. They’re not only frustrating. They’re discouraging.
Zechariah Chapter 4:1-14 is a vision given by God to the prophet post-exilic Zechariah for Zerubbabel, the governor of Jerusalem during the post-exilic period.
