Family on the Streets of Helsinki, Findland, October 3 | Jenny, Mission Story

What if the family you’ve been praying for… is waiting behind a door you’ve never opened?

This is the inspiring true story of Jenny from Helsinki, Finland, a young woman who was searching for Christian friends, belonging, and peace—but never expected that a simple walk through the streets of Helsinki would lead her to a spiritual family, forgiveness, love, marriage, and a completely new life in Christ.

While waiting for her mother at a doctor’s appointment, Jenny walked through Helsinki and prayed for a Christian community. Then she felt impressed to walk down a particular street.

There she met volunteers from OIKOS House, a Seventh-day Adventist church plant. An unexpected conversation, an invitation, and one simple doorbell would eventually change her life.

When Jenny finally entered OIKOS House, she discovered more than a church. She found a family.

But behind her smile was a painful past. A broken relationship had left her hurt and angry. She prayed, “If You are really there, God, please help me.”

As Jenny came to know Jesus, God began transforming her heart. He helped her let go of anger and taught her the power of forgiveness. Through OIKOS and ARISE Finland, her faith grew, and she discovered a life-changing truth:

“God is love.”

Her friendship with Timi eventually grew into a relationship grounded in faith and prayer, and they were married in July 2025.

Today, Jenny studies at the University of Helsinki, and she and Timi live near OIKOS House.

Looking back, Jenny can see God's leading:

The street wasn't an accident.
The invitation wasn't an accident.
The door wasn't an accident.
God was leading her the whole way.

Across Finland, many young adults are still searching for belonging, purpose, friendship, and hope.
