TODAY'S GOSPEL: Matthew 5:17-37
The Gospel this Sunday reminds us that He came not to abolish the law, but to fulfill the law; and the fulfillment of that law is love. When He said that we should surpass the pharisees, he calls us to a higher level of holiness where there is an alignment of our internal and external. Loving obedience is the highest level of holiness. Loving obedience and the law of love are the foundations of our relationship with God: that He is our God and we are His people.
