GATHERED AROUND THE SHEPHERD | The Word Exposed w/ Cardinal Tagle (May 11, 2025) with Sign Language

Has been depicted from antiquity, and it points to the intimate relationship of Jesus with his disciples and in the gospel proclaimed today. Jesus describes this relationship in particular ways. The sheep acknowledges their shepherd's voice, and they follow him because they know each other. The shepherd gives a sheep eternal life.

They will not perish and won't be taken away from his hand. Here we can see that the relationship is built on mutual familiarity, and it is intimate because it is his very life that he gives them so that no one, nothing can separate them from each other. Then Jesus says This relationship between him and sheep is made possible by the father.

It is the father who gave the sheep to him and because Jesus gave them his life. No one can take them out of the father's hands too. Why? The Lord tells us the Father and I are one. In other words, brothers and sisters, our relationship as sheep with Jesus, our shepherd is also a relationship with the Father.

Let us not be afraid to call on our Father. Our good shepherd is holding us by the hand.

Jesus is our guide and companion to the father.
