That last line is really the key. Simple. Challenging? Yes. But even then, possible by God’s grace.

The more I live the Christian life, when I initially thought I identified more with Paul, I’m beginning to see I’m a bit more like Peter.

Peter was zealous for Jesus. But even then, he was oftentimes unstable. His emotions were too big, that many times it would overwhelm him.

Jesus was already right in front of him—obviously the reason why he was literally walking on water (Mt 14:22)—but he still distracted by the waves and started to doubt. He started to drown.

Yet seeing how Jesus still loved Peter dearly, even though the latter’s faith was often small, just makes me treasure God more.

God cares, way more than we could dare believe. He cares for us. He doesn’t give up on us, even though we easily do.

So when He tells us to take heart, to be strong and courageous, it must mean it’s possible. Despite what it feels like, He can give us the strength to do it.
