1. People are unwilling to part with their money.

If this is the reason why we are tentative in our giving, then we are wrong, because this means that we have made a god out of money. For the most part, as I had said previously, most people’s thinking is DOMINATED by MONEY and in a sense it is unavoidable. We use it to pay bills, invest in businesses, pay tuition fees, buy clothes, purchase food items and on and on. This makes us tentative to give. But then again, the only way to prove that money is not our god, is when we are willing to part with it.

2. The second reason why we may be tentative in our giving is because we don’t trust the organizations that are asking for the funding.

This reason is not only UNDERSTANDABLE but also LAUDABLE, because we are concerned where the money of the Lord is going, whether the project is SCRIPTURALLY ORDAINED or in line with God’s will. What is important here is investigating the track record of the one’s making the appeal and the exercise of DISCERNMENT in GIVING. Some people are generous GIVERS but they give their money away to the WRONG PEOPLE, the WRONG ORGANIZATIONS, and the WRONG PROJECTS. Such giving wastes the RESOURCES of the Lord.

This sermon is concerned about the PROPER DISPENSING of MONEY, so that what we will be looking into are the STANDARDS for STEWARDSHIP with INTEGRITY as well as appropriate DISPENSING of money.
