Is Money the Root of All Evil?
Becoming Christians
“Money is the root of all evil” is a phrase often misquoted from Scripture. The Bible actually says, “The love of money is the root of all evil” (1 Timothy 6:10). This difference is crucial. Money itself is a tool—neutral and necessary for daily life. The problem lies in how we value it.
When money becomes an idol, it can corrupt our hearts, distort our priorities, and lead us away from Yahweh. Greed, envy, and dishonesty stem not from money but from an unchecked desire for it. History is filled with stories of people who sacrificed integrity, relationships, and even faith in the pursuit of wealth.
However, money can also be used for good. It can feed the hungry, support ministries, and bless others in need. The key is keeping our hearts focused on Yahweh, not wealth.
So, is money the root of all evil? No—but loving it above God and others can lead to ruin. Let’s use money wisely, keeping it in its rightful place.
