Today is the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, and the gospel narrates how Jesus chose and sent seventy two disciples on mission. He instructed them to be like lambs among wolves, carrying out their mission humbly and peacefully.

They ought to carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals relying only on the kindness and hospitality of people. They ought to greet them with peace, and if they were not accepted, they should also leave in peace. After doing so, they returned to Jesus rejoicing because even the demons were subject to them because of Jesus' name.
Yet the Lord promptly redirected their joy. Do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you. But rejoice because your names are written in heaven. Friends, today we are being asked to review and reflect on our participation in God's work. What motivates us, what gives us joy? Do we behave as lambs or as wolves?
