Today's Devotion:
365 Daily Devotions: Seminary Edition
💁🏻 Concept: Hermeneutics
Hermeneutics is the study of the correct methods of interpreting texts—especially the Bible. Sound hermeneutics helps us read God’s Word faithfully, avoiding misinterpretation and error. It involves understanding the original context, grammar, history, and purpose of Scripture so we can rightly apply it today. Good theology begins with good interpretation.
📖 Bible Readings: Nehemiah 8:8
(2 Timothy 2:15; Nehemiah 8:8; Luke 24:27; Acts 17:11; 2 Peter 1:20–21; Hebrews 4:12; 1 Corinthians 2:13; Psalm 119:18; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
👨🏻💻 Teachings:
Three Principles of Hermeneutics:
1. Context gives the meaning of the text
2. Scripture interprets scripture
3. Christ-centered focus
💪🏼 Applications:
1. Trace back the situation and the author’s intent.
2. Test your interpretations against the whole Bible.
3. Take one step closer to knowing God.
🎙Discussion:
Why is knowing God the goal of hermeneutics?
🙏🏼 Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Help me to love the truth and seek it diligently. Give me a hunger to read the Bible with care, humility, and joy. Teach me not just to read, but to understand and obey. Guard me from error and pride. Make me a faithful student of Your Word who rightly divides truth and applies it with wisdom. Holy Spirit, open my eyes to the depths of Scripture and transform my heart through it. May my understanding lead to a life that honors You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
