MERCIFUL HANDS | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (April 27, 2025)

During the first manifestation, the Risen Lord came into the room and stood in the midst of his disciples. He then gave them a greeting of peace, showed them his wounded hands and side, and breathed on them the Holy Spirit. However, Thomas was absent—and he could not believe the witness of his brothers.

The Risen Lord visited a second time. He came and stood in their midst “although the doors were locked,” greeted them, and showed them, specifically to Thomas, his hands and side. This vision led Thomas to proclaim his faith in Jesus, as his Lord and his God.

What do we need, brothers and sisters, to believe that Jesus is truly risen? We can start by remembering the mercy we have received from God through him. Today we also celebrate the Sunday of Divine Mercy. This is instituted during the Great Jubilee 2000 by Pope John Paul II, inspired by the revelation of Jesus the King of Mercy to Saint Faustina.

How has Jesus—our Lord and our God—shown mercy to you? Through his wounded hand remembering those moments would give you peace and hope.
