Today, we commemorate a historic moment when we came together as a people to show how much we value peace and liberty. We are celebrating this at a time when there seem to be a lot of noise and sounds of division among us, as we come nearer another significant time in our history as a nation: the national elections. We are celebrating this also when peace between and among countries is threatened.

This seems to make it easy for us to lose faith in the power of understanding. But we must never lose faith in humanity, in the power of love, and the value of peace!
