Devotional Message:

This verse may be short, but it holds a powerful truth that can change the way we live each day.

Let’s start by looking at the word "refresh." We all know how good it feels to be refreshed, whether it’s after drinking a cool glass of water on a hot day or taking a break after a long, tiring task. In the same way, Paul is talking about how we can refresh people’s hearts, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. He is praising Philemon for showing love to others in a way that lifts them up and encourages them.

We often think of love as something we feel or something we say. But Paul is pointing out that love is also something we do. Philemon's love was more than just kind words—it was seen through his actions. He lived in such a way that those around him felt encouraged and refreshed, like they had new energy to keep going in their faith.

Think about how refreshing it is when someone shows you genuine love. Maybe it’s a friend who listens when you’re having a hard day, a family member who forgives you when you mess up, or even a stranger who smiles at you when you feel unnoticed. These simple acts of kindness and care can bring new life to someone who might be struggling. That’s what Paul is talking about—love that moves us to action and lifts others up.

Now, how can we apply this in our daily lives? We all have opportunities to refresh the hearts of those around us. It doesn’t always require something big. A phone call to check on a friend, offering to help someone in need, or even speaking a kind word to someone who looks down—these small things can make a big difference. When we show love in these ways, we’re not only following Jesus’ example, but we are
