SAINT ELEUTHERIUS
BISHOP
February 20

Born around 456 at Tournai, in modern Belgium, Eleutherius was the first bishop of the city of his birth. He set himself the difficult task of converting the Franks of King Clovis who, ten years after his nomination as bishop, accepted baptism in mass after their victory over the Alemanni; this important event did not mean the conversion of all France, however, Eleutherius died around 531.
He is depicted in episcopal vestments.
