SAINT JOHN OGILVIE
MARTYR
John Ogilvie was born in Scotland in 1579. At fourteen he was sent to be educated in Belgium and Germany. The he converted to Catholicism and entered the novitiate of the Jesuits at Brunn, in Moravia. He was ordained a priest in 1610. In 1613, he returned to Scotland, where Catholics were being persecuted, so he operated clandestinely. In 1614, he was arrested and tortured, the next year, he was executed for high treason at Glasgow. He was canonized in 1976.
He is depicted wearing a cassock and black mantle.
NAME: john is from a Hebrew name meaning “Yahweh is gracious.”
