Lucia was born an Tarquinia, Italy, in 1672. While still a child she lost first her mother, then the father, and at sixteen she entered the monastery of Santa Chiara at Montefiascone. There she dedicated herself to the education of the devout, with the advice of cardinal Barbarigo and the help of the blessed Rose Venerini, leading to the foundation of the Pious Matrons, created to help in the education of young girls. She died in 1732 and was canonized in 1930.
NAME: Lucia is Latin and means “luminous, shining.”
