SAINT NESTOR OF MAGYDOS
BISHOP AND MARTYR
February 26

Nestor occupied the bishop’s see at Magydos in Asia Minor in the region of Pamphylia during the period of the persecution under Decius, in the middle of the 3rd century. According to what is said in a Greek passio, Nestor sought to save the entire Christian community by placing it outside the city, while he alone remained in prayer. He was found, arrested, and condemned to crucifixion for refusing to abjure his faith and sacrifice to the idols.
He is depicted in episcopal vestments, sometimes during his martyrdom on the cross.
