SAINT SECUNDUS
MARTYR

Secundus lived in the 2nd century. Born into a pagan family, he was struck by the heroism of Christian martyrs and visited them in prisons at Asti, Italy. He joined the faith thanks to Saint Calocerus of Brescia and probably received baptism from saints Faustinus and Jovita. In his turn he was imprisoned and executed (perhaps in 119) for having buried the martyred bishop Martian and for having refused to abjure his faith. His cult and the legendary information that surrounds him date to the 9th century.
He is depicted as a soldier or knight, sometimes with a model of the city of Asti.
