SAINT VINCENT FERRER
PRIEST
Born at Valencia in 1350, Vincent Ferrer was a Dominican friar and preacher. He worked tirelessly for the unity of the Church during the period of the Great Schism, when there was a pope at Rome and another in Avignon. He converted Cathars and Waldensians and made efforts to end the Hundred Years War. He died at Vannes, in Brittany, in 1419.
He is depicted in the habit of a Dominican, holding a book or flame, he often points an index finger skyward. He is invoked against lightning, earthquakes, and epilepsy.
