A dedicated teacher noticed a piece of gum stuck to her skirt as she stood up from her desk. Her students kept laughing when she asked who did it. As she tried to keep her temper in check, she imagined herself as a fierce teacher, beating, slapping, and striking her students. Since she had to remain calm, she started to write their lesson on the board. Upon doing so, only some of her students focused on studying while the others played, made noise, and laughed. The teacher again imagined throwing an eraser at her disrespectful students.
To get the attention of her students, the teacher yelled to the class. She reprimanded them by posing the situation in reverse - how would they feel and react if she had stuck gum to one of them? She encouraged the naughty students to talk to her. She assured them that she would not express any anger, but would do what was right.
