"The Ancient Illusionists" (Matthew 23:1-12) Pastor Mel Caparros May 19, 2024 Sunday Service

In Pilgrim's Progress John Bunyan describes a character named .“Talkative” as a "saint abroad and a devil at home." This is what the Pharisees were, saints abroad, but devils at home. They were only saints outwardly, but inside there was a demon living inside.

Jesus denounces them in this passage and exposes them for what they are. But while we look into the lives of these ancient religionists through an ancient microscope, let us not easily vent our indignation, because we may just find out that we are made with much the same stuff as they are.

In this sermon series, we will see the DIVIDE between the Pharisees and Scribes whom we’ll call as Ancient Illusionists (a person who performs tricks that deceive the eye) and the Real Disciples of Christ.
